Texas House Majority

The Challenge

Republicans have consistently dominated the House in Texas, but with changing demographics, can that majority stay relevant and be reflective of who Texans are today? Democrats argued that it was out of touch and no longer represented Texans, but key GOP victories showed that the Majority is strong and reflects a diverse array of modern Texas.

The Key to Victory

While Democrats lined up their familiar talking points, Republicans like Janie Lopez and John Lujan showed that Republican positions on issues like border security and property taxes will win everywhere. Texans care about more than checking off a box for racial representation, they wanted Representatives who will deal with practical state issues instead of grandstand about the culture war.

The Outcome

Record-setting members like Lopez and Lujan, along with so many other Republicans, proved that common sense issues and a focus on practical problems instead of divisive rhetoric is what Texans want. No matter what their ethnicity or where they are in the state. That focus on practical issues paid off and the GOP majority gained two more seats.
